The template (copy or print)
[Your full name] [Your address, including postcode] [Your housing application reference, if you have one] [Today's date] [Council housing options or allocations team] Dear Sir or Madam, Re: Request for medical priority for rehousing I am asking you to assess my housing application on medical grounds and to review the priority or band I have been given. [Explain how your home affects your health. For example: the stairs are unsafe for my condition, the home is overcrowded and worsens my illness, or there is no space for equipment I need.] [List your health conditions briefly, and who is treating you.] I have attached supporting evidence. Please tell me how your allocation scheme assesses medical priority, what else you need from me, and when I will get a decision. Yours faithfully, [Your full name] [Your phone number] [Your email address]
After you send it
Every council has its own allocation scheme, so ask for a copy of how it assesses medical priority. If you are turned down, you can usually ask for a review. For free advice, contact Shelter or Citizens Advice.
