Cookies policy

Short answer
We always set a small number of essential cookies that make the site work. We only set analytics and advertising cookies if you accept them in the cookie banner. If you choose "Essential only", we do not set them.
Essential cookies (always set)
- Your cookie choice (sft-consent). Remembers whether you accepted or declined optional cookies, so we do not ask you again on every visit. Kept for 180 days.
- Vercel session cookie, set by our hosting platform to balance traffic across its servers. It does not identify you and expires when you close the browser.
Optional cookies (only if you accept)
If you press "Accept cookies" in the banner, we also set:
- Google Analytics (cookies starting _ga). Shows us how the site is used, for example which pages people read and where they get stuck, so we can improve it.
- Google Ads (cookies starting _gcl). Tells us when a visit came from one of our adverts, so we know which adverts help people find us.
- Meta (Facebook) Pixel (cookies starting _fb). The same job as above, for adverts on Facebook and Instagram.
Until you accept, these tools are told consent is denied and the cookies are not set. Our website code applies the same rule on our servers, not just in your browser.
If you arrive from one of our adverts
When you land on the site from a Google advert, the address you arrive on carries a click reference. We keep that reference in a cookie (sft_clickid) for 90 days. It contains no name or contact details. If you go on to make an enquiry, it lets us tell Google which advert led to a genuine case, so we can spend less on adverts that do not help anyone.
If you submit a form
Zoho Forms, our form processor, sets its own cookies that the form needs to work and to prevent spam. These only load when you open a form. See Zoho's privacy policy. You can avoid them by calling 0800 030 4669 instead.
What we do not use
- Heatmaps or session recording (no Hotjar, no FullStory)
- Tag managers (no Google Tag Manager)
- Social media embeds that track you around the web
Changing your mind
To change your choice, delete this site's cookies in your browser settings (Safari, Chrome, Firefox and Edge all support this). The banner will ask you again on your next visit. Blocking cookies does not affect your ability to read the site.
If we change this
If we add a new cookie or a new tool, we will update this page first. We will not add new tracking without asking you.
