Support for Tenants

Councils warn tenants about claim farms. The warnings are fair.

Some disrepair claims firms cold call, hide their fees, and leave tenants worse off. Councils and housing associations are right to warn people. Here is how to check any claims company, including us, before you give them your details.

Six checks to run on any claims firm

1. Can you find out who they really are?

Warning sign: Many rogue firms hide behind a website with no company name, no address, and no named people.

Where we stand: We are Support for Tenants, a trading name of Cyntex Group Ltd, company number 15248911, registered office 124 City Road, London EC1V 2NX. You can look us up at Companies House and on the FCA register.

2. Did they cold call you?

Warning sign: Rogue firms buy your number and call, text, or knock on your door out of the blue. Some pretend to be from the council.

Where we stand: We do not cold call, and we never pretend to be your council or landlord. People come to us through this website, our free phone line, or a referral from someone helping them, like a doctor's surgery or an advice centre.

3. Do they tell you the fee before you sign?

Warning sign: Some firms bury their fee in small print, or do not mention that losing can cost you money.

Where we stand: No upfront cost. You only pay if you win, and the fee comes out of the compensation, not your pocket. If you don't win, you pay nothing. The solicitor puts the exact fee in plain English in your agreement before you sign. See how we are funded for the full picture.

4. Do they tell you about the free routes?

Warning sign: Rogue firms hide the fact that you can complain to your landlord and go to the Housing Ombudsman for free.

Where we stand: You can make a claim yourself, for free, through the Housing Ombudsman. We say that on every page of this site, in the footer. If a free route fits your case better than ours, we will say so on the first call.

5. Do they pressure you to sign today?

Warning sign: Countdown timers, fake urgency, and pushy callbacks are classic signs of a firm that needs you to sign before you think.

Where we stand: No pressure, and no obligation. Take your time, ask questions, and check us out first. Your claim does not expire today.

6. Can you complain about them if things go wrong?

Warning sign: With an anonymous firm there is often no complaints process at all.

Where we stand: We publish a complaints policy, and because we are a regulated claims management company you can also take a complaint about us to the Financial Ombudsman Service.
