Safeguarding statement

Many of the homes we hear about are not safe. We take this seriously. If we are worried that a child or a vulnerable adult is at risk, we will act with care and pass the concern to the right service. If you are in immediate danger, call 999.

What we mean by safeguarding

Safeguarding is keeping children and vulnerable adults safe from abuse, neglect, or serious harm, including harm caused by an unsafe home.

What we will do

  • Take what you tell us seriously and treat it in confidence.
  • Where we have a concern, we will tell you, and explain the next step.
  • Where a child or vulnerable adult may be at serious risk, we will share information with the right service (council safeguarding team, the police, or your doctor).
  • We do not share more than is needed, and only where the law allows.
  • Our team is trained on housing-related safeguarding and the impact of damp, cold and unsafe conditions on health.

Who else can help right now

  • 999 if anyone is in immediate danger.
  • Your council's adult social care or children's services team.
  • Shelter on 0808 800 4444 for urgent housing advice.
  • NSPCC on 0808 800 5000 if a child may be at risk.
  • National Domestic Abuse Helpline on 0808 2000 247 if abuse is part of what is happening.
  • Samaritans on 116 123 if you need to talk.
