L&Q ordered to pay £1,135 after calling a 'sinking' home's cracks cosmetic
What happened
A resident reported widening cracks across her walls and ceilings and doors that would not lock, and said her house was sinking. The landlord first called the cracks cosmetic and delayed sending a building surveyor, even after its own operative noted large cracks and that a corner of the building appeared to be dropping. The resident ended up living away from the home.
What the independent statutory ruling ordered
Ordered to pay £550 for the delays and poor communication, on top of the £585 it had already offered, and to address her costs for time spent living away from the property.
