Dear [Landlord or Housing Officer name],

Re: Gas safety check and alarms at [your address]

I am writing to ask you to carry out the yearly gas safety check at my home and give me a copy of the record. I have not had one in the last 12 months.

Please also check that I have a working smoke alarm on each floor and a working carbon monoxide alarm where there is a fixed heater or boiler, and replace any that are missing or broken.

Please tell me when you will arrange this.

Yours sincerely,

After you send it

If you can smell gas now, leave the property and call the National Gas Emergency line on 0800 111 999 straight away. Your landlord must arrange a gas safety check every year, give you a copy of the record, and provide working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.
