[Your full name] [Your address, including postcode] [Today's date] [Landlord's name and address, or the housing officer's email] Dear [Landlord or Housing Officer name], Re: Gas safety check and alarms at [your address] I am writing to ask you to carry out the yearly gas safety check at my home and give me a copy of the record. I have not had one in the last 12 months. Please also check that I have a working smoke alarm on each floor and a working carbon monoxide alarm where there is a fixed heater or boiler, and replace any that are missing or broken. Please tell me when you will arrange this. Yours sincerely, [Your full name] [Your phone number] [Your email address]
After you send it
If you can smell gas now, leave the property and call the National Gas Emergency line on 0800 111 999 straight away. Your landlord must arrange a gas safety check every year, give you a copy of the record, and provide working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.
