Has Newcastle City Council ignored your repair complaint?

You're not the only one. If you reported a repair and Newcastle City Council ignored it, the law is on your side.

Newcastle City Council's housing stock is managed by Your Homes Newcastle (YHN), the council's wholly-owned ALMO, covering around 26,000 properties. YHN has historically scored well on engagement measures but has faced criticism over response times for structural repairs in Walker, Byker and West End estates.

C3, after self-referrals 2024. Major damp/mould and electrical safety backlogs. They manage 26,000 homes across England. When a landlord this size ignores you, the law is on your side, but only if you act. Under Awaab's Law and Section 11 of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1985, you can claim compensation and force the repair.

If you live in a Byker Wall property the structure is Grade-II* listed, which complicates routine repairs but does not exempt YHN from Awaab's Law deadlines. Listed-building consent is not a valid reason for missing the 10-working-day investigation deadline. If Newcastle City Council or YHN has ignored you, here's how to claim.
