HMO (House in Multiple Occupation)
Plain-English definition
A property let to 3+ tenants from 2+ households (typically sharing kitchen/bathroom). Most HMOs need a licence from the council. HMO landlords have stricter safety duties (fire alarms, escape routes, room sizes).
